Out of the Fire

Forgiveness is the ability to go on in a life-giving relationship without the last bad experience holding you back.
We need a holy addiction to His Presence, so that He becomes more important to us than oxygen.
If you adjust your doctrine to fit the world in order to attract the world, sooner or later the world realizes that they already have what the church offers.
You must not allow yourself to get bored and stray from your assignment. Don't let yourself wander off into something new unless God is specifically directing it. Presumptions about the will of God will get you into trouble. The enemy will try to lure you into some other activity if you let your mind get sidetracked and don't stay focused on your last marching order.
Some like to read the Bible in the Hebrew. Some in the Greek. I like to read it in the Holy Ghost.
Humility is the displacement of self by the enthronement of God.
God brings us to the place of total dependence upon Himself to demonstrate that He is totally dependable. ... The more completely I depend on God, the more He surprises me by the results that follow -- results that I could never have achieved as long as I depended on my own efforts.
God will only take you into a conflict He's equipped you to win.
We must see the face of the Lord .... There are things that God says to me that I know must take place. It doesn't matter what people say. I have been face to face with some of the most trying moments of men's lives when it meant so much to me if I kept the vision, and if I held fast to that which God had said. A man must be in an immovable condition. The voice of God must mean to him more than what he sees, feels, or what people say.
It is a basic tenet throughout the Scriptures that God rewards diligence, faithfulness, endurance, and steadfastness.
Great faith is the product of great fights. Great testimonies are the outcome of great tests. Great triumphs can only come out of great trials.
If God doesn't open the door of opportunity in which I'm to minister, I don't want to go through that door.
When you have given up your life entirely to the Holy Spirit, you have no right to take it back or to resent what He does with it. ... You accept everything from Him, whether it seems to be for you or against you. ... When He comes in, He shows you yourself as He sees you, and He deals with the old nature, its thoughts and motives. Human reasoning and understanding belong to the old nature, which God tells us not to trust (Proverbs 3:5). You must be quiet before God for Him to show you these things.
Nothing is more important than God's glory.
[The prayer of faith] is a prayer willing to believe and prevail for God's answer in a situation that is utterly impossible. Regardless of the difficulty of the situation, you require no external confirmation but believe God in spite of appearance. Your eyes are on God, not on the situation.
The greatest value in trouble comes to those who bow lowest before the throne.
God is more concerned with our character than with our achievements. Achievements have importance only in the realm of time. Character is eternal. It determines what we will be through eternity.
Never allow the smallness of others to imprison you.
We are often hindered from giving up our treasures to the Lord out of fear for their safety; this is especially true when those treasures are loved relatives and friends. But we need have no such fears. Our Lord came not to destroy but to save. Everything is safe which we commit to Him, and nothing is really safe which is not so committed.
A man who is intimate with God is not intimidated by man.
Every promise of Scripture is a writing of God, which may be pleaded before Him with this reasonable request: "Do as Thou hast said." The Creator will not cheat His creature who depends upon His truth; and, far more, the Heavenly Father will not break His word to His own child. "Remember the word unto Thy servant, on which Thou hast caused me to hope," is most prevalent pleading. It is a double argument: "It is Thy Word, wilt Thou not keep it? Why hast Thou spoken of it if Thou wilt not make it good? Thou hast caused me to hope in it; wilt Thou disappoint the hope which Thou hast Thyself begotten in me?"
I am not moved by what I see. I am not moved by what I feel. I am moved only by what I believe.
Whenever you approach any of God's children -- no matter who or where they are -- treat them with dignity, integrity, honor, and humility. Remember, they are kings and queens in God's eyes ....
Most Christians long to see miracles, but they don't want to be put in a position where they will need one.
Eternity with Jesus doesn't start when we die; it started the moment we gave Him our lives.
When human reason has exhausted every possibility, the children can go to their Father and receive all they need. ... For only when you have become utterly dependent upon prayer and faith, only when all human possibilities have been exhausted, can you begin to reckon that God will intervene and work His miracles.
As we soak in God's presence, heaven sticks to us.
I would rather pay the price to hear God's voice personally, regardless of how difficult the circumstances may be, than to have to settle for always hearing from Him secondhand.
The secret behind every godly man and woman is their belief in the truth that they have been forgiven. ... Even when they say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing, or have a wrong thought, they continue to be forgiveness-conscious.
The best way to dwell in the presence of the Lord is to be a thankful person.
You must every day make higher ground. You must deny yourself to make progress with God. You must refuse everything that is not pure and holy. God wants you pure in heart. He wants you to have an intense desire after holiness.
Groanings which cannot be uttered are often prayers which cannot be refused.
Some of the folks say Jesus Christ did miracles to prove His divinity. I do not say He did not, but I say that Jesus Christ did miracles because He could not help Himself .... It was His very nature to do so. When He was in the presence of the sick ones He healed them all. He did not do it to establish His divinity, but because it was just like Him to do it. It would not have been like Him if He had not. Well, if He healed folks in those days it is logical that He does it now, because His nature has not changed .... He cannot help Himself.
God loves with a great love the man whose heart is bursting with a passion for the impossible.
God's Word does not say, "Call unto me, and you will thereby be trained into the happy art of knowing how to be denied. Ask, and you will learn sweet patience by getting nothing." Far from it. But it is definite, clear and positive: "Ask, and it shall be given unto you."
Truth is not obtained cheaply. It demands much time given to prayer and study of the Scriptures, followed by practical application in our daily lives. It must take priority over the many forms of cheap entertainment offered by our secular culture. It is a lifetime commitment.
The Gospel without power is not good news at all.
I believe the place of prayer is not only a place where I lose my burdens, but also a place where I get a burden. He shares my burden and I share His burden. ... To know that burden, we must hear the voice of the Spirit. To hear that voice, we must be still and know that He is God.
Jesus never makes promises that He can't keep.
We ought to live every day as though we've come out of another world into this world -- but with the power of that world still upon us. We should live and speak and move in that power, and have our whole being in Jesus Christ!
A successful Christian life will not be based on how much work we have done, but rather, on how close to the Lord we have become and how obedient we have been.
To be loved by God is the highest relationship, the highest achievement, and the highest position in life.
Knowing His will is more valuable than all the treasures we could ever have, and we must always esteem knowing His will as the true treasure, and therefore make it the primary thing that we seek.
We need to realize that the promises that overflow our Bibles will overflow into our own lives only as we appropriate them through prayer.
The Spirit does not lead you to pray for useless goals.
God usually brings victory in the darkness.... If you're going through some times where it looks like devastation in your life...and things look very, very disgusting and discouraging, I want to remind you of something: Holy Spirit is right outside your door, in the dark, evaluating the situation.... Holy Spirit knows how to move in your darkness.... He's examining and inspecting and evaluating your situation. And believe me, it might seem like God is not up to nothing; it might seem like you don't see anything happening, but Holy Spirit is looking it over. He's coming up with a plan, and believe me, He won't just look it over; He'll return and He'll help you.
Nobody can do as much damage to the Church of God as the man who is within its walls, but not within its life.
God is waiting to be put to the test by His people in prayer. He delights in being put to the test on His promises. It is His highest pleasure to answer prayer, to prove the reliability of His promises.
Nothing is more pathetic than having a small character in a big assignment. Many of us don't want to give attention to our character, we just want the big assignment from God.
God is not going to let you get slaughtered.
O my Savior...teach me to pray; implant in me all the dispositions needful for the prayer of the Holy Spirit....Of what use is my prayer if the Holy Spirit does not pray with me? Come, Holy Spirit, come to dwell and work with me! Take possession of my understanding and of my will; govern my actions not only at the moment of prayer but at every moment.
The longer I live, the larger allowances I make for human infirmities. I exact more from myself and less from others.
Because we are God's children...we can bring our needs to him with certainty in prayer.... Prayer is not some kind of heavenly lottery. Nor does the Bible counsel us to pray with an "I hope this will work"...attitude. Instead...prayer brings us before the throne of grace as children seeking the help of their heavenly Father. That's the heart of breakthrough, successful prayer--the bold confidence that we are talking to the Father who delights to supply our needs.
Dear God, Your will: nothing more, nothing less, nothing else!
Trust in God is ... the belief that God is good, that He's gracious, charitable, and on our side. All He wants is for us to put our hand in His hand and let Him guide us through life.
A severe apprenticeship in the trade of praying must be served in order to become a journeyman in it.
He [Jesus] has a right to interrupt your life. He is Lord. When you accepted Him as Lord, you gave Him the right to help Himself to your life anytime He wants.
Discernment is God's call to intercession, never to faultfinding.
God is not about to put a promise out there, and then let the devil steal it.
Never doubt in the dark what God has shown you in the light.
Prayer is not overcoming God's reluctance. It is laying hold of God's willingness.
Prayers prayed in the Spirit never die until they accomplish God's intended purpose. His answer may not be what we expected, or when we expected it, but God often provides much more abundantly than we could think or ask. He interprets our intent and either answers or stores up our prayers. Sincere prayers are never lost. Energy, time, love, and longing can be endowments that will never be wasted or go unrewarded.
I don't often spend more than half an hour in prayer at one time, but I never go more than half an hour without praying.
Victory is won in the spiritual realm before it is ever seen in the earthly realm.
Every time anyone looks up into the skies and sees God's incredible handiwork, instinctively he or she knows there is a Creator, a supernatural Being at work behind it all. There is no such thing as an honest atheist.
The providence of God will not place you where His grace cannot keep you.
Some say, "Ah, those Christians, they're just brainwashed." Well, if the thing needs washing, let's wash it!
When God comes down, He removes the immovable difficulties. When God comes down, the impossible becomes reality. God moves on behalf of the one who waits.
I cannot understand how God can give to any of His children glory and virtue, but it nevertheless is true that He does.... There is something about believing in God, that makes God willing to pass over a million people just to anoint you. I believe God will always turn out to meet you on a special line if you dare to believe Him.
Crucified preaching only can give life. Crucified preaching can come only from a crucified man.
Spiritual vision requires that what we see with the eyes of our hearts will be more real to us than what we see with our natural eyes. We must see what is invisible to others.
We would be still and know that You are God.... We stand in awe of You..., Your awesome holiness, majestic splendor, blazing glory, limitless power, and unquestionable sovereignty. We worship You for Your flawless character, Your infinite knowledge and wisdom, Your absolute justice, unswerving faithfulness, unending mercy.... We bow our hearts and bend our knees before... Your dazzling beauty, Your fascinating personality, Your incomprehensible humility, Your unsearchable understanding, and Your unfathomable love. ...Our greatest need is to have a far greater revelation of what You are really like. We ask You to meet that need.
He must increase, but I must decrease.
Not from Christians, but still great quotes:
Anything worth having is worth fighting for.
True love never grows heavy. Who would be loved must love. Love warms more than a thousand fires. Love rules without law. Love is master of all arts.
Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort, of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts, nor measure words, but to pour them all out just as they are, chaff and grain together, knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then, with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.
Real friends are those who, when you've made a fool of yourself, don't feel that you've done a permanent job.
